Interview Shoes – The Correct Designs For Males And Females

Even though many offices are becoming much more casual about dress codes, for several firms, professional look is of utmost importance. In an interview your outfit plays a supporting role. Interview attire advice often focuses on suit colours and cuts for men and whether or not to wear a skirt or slacks for women and the color of either. Other posts of interview outfit are even more important. A case in point is shoes. For men and women, wearing the appropriate style and type of shoes can frequently function as the most important and most visible item of interview attire.

Here are a few suggestions on the shoes to put on to a job interview.

For Men

Avoid trendy shoes.

For men there are 4 kinds of shoes which are appropriate for job interviews. There are from most to least formal: the black oxford shoe, the black brogue shoe, the black tassel loafer and finally the black dress penny loafer. All these shoes has a distinct style and message.

Avoid informal shoes such as weekend loafers or other very casual shoes with leather, rubber or plastics soles. Interviews like ISC medical interview meant to be professional, so avoid casual footwear.

While a pair of Converse chucks might show your artsy side, and a couple of trainers may be the most comfortable choice, to make your best first impression, don’t wear sneakers to an interview for an office job.

For Ladies

The shoes must be worn with neutral colored stockings or pantyhose whatever the season or temperature (or knee highs if work with slacks). Stay away from high contrast between your suit and hosiery color.

It’s fairly obvious that flip-flops are an inappropriate choice for the interview, but for many office jobs, even dressier and heeled sandals should be avoided.

Choose closed-toe pumps. Although offices do not have a policy against open toe shoes, some do. It’s best to play it safe and find out the dress codes after you land the job, instead of to risk it on the interview.

The safest bet is to go with a classic and conservative style.

Avoid suede and never wear shoes that have metallic sparkle, glitter or sequins for an interview (or for business ever).

On the whole:

Leather, lace-up or slip-on business shoes, preferably black or cordovan.

invest in a good pair; even if you do not use them daily on the job, you will need them for other events and you should expect to get lots of years out of good shoes.

The footwear should be leather or fabric / micro fiber.

Oversized shoe details, such as buckles, zippers, tassels or other embellishments, should generally be ignored. You can sport a shoe with embellishments as long as those embellishments are somewhat subtle, tasteful and match the rest of the outfit.

Regardless of which style of shoe is worn, they must be well maintained – meaning not scuffed or worn at the heel and highly polished.

Dressing nicely and appropriately is a compliment to the person you meet, so if in doubt, err on the side of dressing better than you may want to. Never confuse an interview or business function with a social event. Don’t dress for a party or a date.
